Health & Safety Policy

1. Statement of Intent

Gherkin Creative is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, freelancers, clients, and visitors. We recognise our responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations, and aim to meet and exceed these obligations by promoting a culture of safety, awareness, and wellbeing across all areas of our business.

​Our objectives are to:

​

  • Prevent accidents and work-related ill health

  • Provide safe equipment and maintain a healthy working environment

  • Ensure all staff are competent to carry out their work safely

  • Regularly assess and manage risks across our workplace and working practices

  • Monitor and review our health and safety arrangements to ensure effectiveness

2. Responsibilities

Management is responsible for:

​

  • Implementing this Health & Safety Policy

  • Carrying out risk assessments and ensuring appropriate control measures are in place

  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained and used safely

  • Providing appropriate health and safety training and resources

  • Reviewing and updating the policy annually or as the business evolves

​

Employees and freelancers are expected to:

​

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others

  • Report any hazards, risks or safety concerns to management immediately

  • Use all equipment responsibly and in accordance with instructions

  • Follow all safety procedures and attend relevant training

​

3. Workplace Arrangements

Risk Assessments

We carry out regular informal and formal risk assessments of the office and workspaces to identify and mitigate hazards.

Equipment and Environment

​

Workstations are ergonomically set up to minimise strain and fatigue

Electrical equipment is PAT tested annually

Clear walkways and regular cleaning help maintain a hazard-free environment

Appropriate ventilation and natural light are provided

​

Display Screen Equipment (DSE)

​

All staff are provided with guidance on DSE best practices and offered regular DSE assessments to minimise the risk of eye strain, repetitive strain injury, or posture-related issues.

Fire Safety

​

  • Fire exits are clearly marked and unobstructed

  • Smoke detectors are fitted and tested regularly

  • A fire evacuation plan is in place and communicated to all staff

​​

First Aid

A first aid kit is maintained and kept in an accessible location. In offices with multiple staff, at least one person is designated as a first aider.​

 

Remote/Hybrid Working

Staff working remotely are provided with advice to ensure their home working environment is safe and free from hazards. Risk assessments are available upon request.

​

4. Training and Information    

All new staff receive a health and safety induction. Ongoing guidance is provided as required. Training needs are reviewed periodically based on changes to working practices or roles.

 

5. Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are significant changes in the business or legislation. Feedback from staff is encouraged and incorporated into the review process.​​​​
